“Epic Kashmir Hazy IPA takes its name from the Cashmere hop, a brand new hybrid hop bred from the Cascade hop.
During the US hop harvest Luke visited Cornerstone Ranches, in Yakima Valley, Washington State. On this particular the day they were harvesting Cashmere hops. Everyone seemed really excited. Luke talked to a number of brewers about the hop and then found out that the crop had already sold out. So when some Cashmere hops finally become available he jumped on them to give them a try.
In addition to being a Christchurch suburb, the word Cashmere derives from Kashmir, the northernmost region of the Indian subcontinent. Fans of classic rock know Kashmir from the Led Zeppelin song, with its equal parts Jimmy Page guitar hook, driving John Bonham beat, and exotic Middle Eastern inspired melody. Thinking about those psychedelic Led Zeppelin album covers inspired the label for Kashmir, and the idea that at Epic we journey all over the world in search of unique hop flavours for our beers.” – Epic
